When you're nailing a proximal or distal tibia fracture with a small-diameter nail and the fragment is short and wobbly in the metaphysis, add blocking screws in the AP plane as close to the fracture site as possible — the closer they are, the bigger the stiffness gain, and standard interlocking screws are all you need.
